My Basket ball

My hubby has a debilitating disease. This has left him unable to do a lot of things he would have liked to do.
A couple of days ago for a brief moment he let me see a bit of his heart that I had forgotten was there.
We were out doing a rare thing together, shopping. We passed a large chocolate Easter display and amongst it was a basket that had a basket ball in it among other treats.
He said,”Hey there’s my basket ball.”
I said,”Yeah right, you want a basket ball?”
“I wish I could play basket ball and do other things with our kids.”
For a moment I couldn’t breath. You see we don’t spend a lot of time talking about the things he can’t do, we just get through each day as it comes. Living as best we know how.

I get so busy just living that I forget that there is a man at home hurting not only physically but in his spirit because he can’t be the dad he wants to be to his kids.
