Special Needs

I am not sure I like that term.. Special needs. I have a daughter that is classified as ‘special needs’ and I don’t really see how her needs are any different then anyone else’s. We all need to be loved, to belong, have shelter, food, clothing. a sense of purpose. The way those needs are met would be different for every one. I know we have to live with some labels in order for her needs to be met, but I think of each of my children as special, unique, individuals. They each have brought something special into my life and they are each loved. Each of my children have taught me many things about life, parenting, etc. I have had to stretch myself and learn and grow with them as we have explored this adventure called life. Some days I feel like I am the Captain of a Star Ship exploring strange new worlds and seeking out new civilizations, boldly going where no man has gone before.
