Baby Boomers
aparently I and my sister fall into that age of the baby boomers.
Funny I thought my mom was in that group. they have since decided it is those born between 1945 and 1964 which is obviously more then one generation of people and I think a variety of histories.
I for one was a toddler during the 60's and my sister was born in 64 so I wonder how we can be considered to be a part of a group that were tripping out and living in communes and watching Ed Sullivan and listening to the Beatles?
My teen years I was living through the short period of the disco, wearing platform shoes and turtle neck sweaters.
My group were not marching on anything and for the most part we came in on the last of the liberation movement.
In some ways we lived off the good and the bad of those times.
Now, I am not sure I want to be grouped with those who are 62 this year when I am only 48. After all my own mother is only 67, a mere 5 years older then these boomers.
Maybe my generation got lumped in with the boomers because we did not really leave our mark on society with anything other then our style of clothes and our music,
We did not invent rock and roll we just refined it.
We did not really have any effect on the big changes in society during the 50s and 60s because we did not reach our teens until the end of the 60s or into the 70s.
So now I come to the present. Once again, the real boomers are going ahead of me into retirement or what ever they plan to do and once again they are making big changes and we who come after will probably refine but I doubt we will come up with anything terrifically new.
So here I am still in my 40s, with adult children at home watching to see what those turning 60 are doing with the rest of their lives. I will see if it suits me or if I want to fine tune it.
After all, now we have a lot more years left to live then they did in the past and I don't think any of us want to curl up and die. There is still a lot of lving to do.
