Sing A Song
Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast, To soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak. - William Congreve [Source: The Mourning Bride. Act i. Sc. 1.]
Music is a major part of who I am, I am sure if they could analyze my DNA a few pieces would be music.
I have heard music played, sung to and listened to since my earliest remembrances. All my childhood memories have music in there somewhere. To this day if I am feeling down or stressed, I will listen or sing or play something. It causes me to relax and gives me the abilbity to think, solve problems or at least to let my cares fall away for a time.
Music does have charm. When my hubby is in very bad pain he will listen to his favoirte music or have me sing to him.
If you had the brain tested it probably releases some sort of chemicals that cause us to feel good and somehow even lessens pain and suffering when we hear music.
In the Bible it talks about the early Christians who sang while they were in prison. A large part of the Bible is the Psalms which were the songs that were written and even sung in days gone by. Some were sad but many were ones of encouragement.
Music I think is something that can speak directly to the soul bypassing our cluttered minds and taking us to a place where we can take a break from the madness around us.
I know some music can also excite and cause a negative reaction but like anything else good in this world, it can be corrupted.
Let me leave you with the following thought from Joe Raposo.
Sing sing a song Sing out loud sing out strong
Sing of good things not bad sing of happy not sad
sing sing a song make it simple to last your whole life long
don't worry that it's not good enough for any one else to hear
just sing sing a song
