Today is the funeral

Our store manager was diagnosed and condemned with cancer a mere month ago and 2 days ago he died. Today is his funeral. Many of the staff are going. I have chosen not to go as I don’t know the family.

The morale has been low this last month and now that the mourning of some is in full swing it is sometimes difficult to be there and see. Not the ones who are mourning but the ones who are using this as an opportunity to show that they can be the boss.
The politics of business sickens me.

They had some folks at the store the last 2 days there to talk with each of the staff, sort of as grief counselors. The one woman asked me if there was something she could do for me. I told her about the atmosphere here and said we need more staff (our department has been short staffed since May) and we need a new manager to help things begin to return to some sense of normal.

I do not envy that new manager, he will have to be a wise person. He will have to deal with the ghosts of our manager (those who just want him back) and he will have to deal with the assistants who have been trying to run things their way ever since our manager got into the hospital.

  1. I don’t like those kind of politics either! Praying for you at this difficult time, Kareen.
